Running and books and stuff
Last Saturday morning Chris and I went out for a run and a walk together. With the aid of a piece of string and google maps I found out we covered 4.25 miles in 55 minutes. We did the same route again today and only took 50 minutes. I'm so proud of us both!

I'm trying to keep up with the running and I'd like to run twice a week with Chris, once a week with Scott and once more either by myself or possibly with someone else from work. I notice that including last Saturday's run, I've covered 17.84 miles this week. So perhaps I should find out the distance between 2 places and have that as a target, in the same way as I am currently cycling across France (pootling along the south coast now).

As I remarked to [info]bookzombie I'm now 41 and for the first time in my life I am happy with my body, with what it can do and with what I need to do to look after it and maintain it. I hope I can keep this balanced from now on.

On the books front - I have started my Carl Brandon Society 2006 award reading and am looking forward to receiving more books. See the CBS webpage here http://www.carlbrandon.org/ especially about nominating books for the 2007 awards.

For myself, I am currently reading Joanne Harris' "Runemarks" and it is fantastic! It feels like a wonderful companion volume to "American Gods" and I'm wondering whether my speculation is right namely whether this is a post-apocalyptic version of our world. Certainly the map looks like a drowned Britain.

so i won't see the spoiler because companion to _american gods_ sounds intriguing. i missed that you were reading for CBS--which award are you reading for? and congrats on the running success!

I'm reading for both Kindred and Parallax awards. I've read soft copies of the first 6 stories - there are 35 eligible works, some of which are eligible for both awards.

I also wanted to say, I've been really enjoying your recent posts.

Well done on keeping up with the running. I am fretful at the moment because though my strained leg is healing slowly, it is a sloooow process and though I can walk more or less normally now (rather than limping), walking briskly is out and running again is a distant dream. Thank heavens for the bike!

For future ref: Gmaps Pedometer.

Hmm, the Joanne Harris sounds interesting. Must look for it when I have more time.

This is so very cool! So people never manage that. Here's to balance!

Synchronicity is wonderful!

I just found gmaps pedometer earlier through [info]the_magician and have been happily working out my routes (once I learned the art of the double-click).

I've just finished the Joanne Harris and it did not disappoint.

Now I'm going to treat myself to some real running shoes.
